Frequently Asked Questions

PASI is a Christian Non-Profit Charitable organization passionate about providing social opportunities and economic empowerment to disadvantaged widows, underprivileged children and visually impaired  in Ghana and across sub-Sahara Africa through our social intervention programs – Feeding, Shelter, Education, Empowering, and Developing. We are dedicated to giving hope to those in need and providing people with an opportunity to develop emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. We help everyone irrespective of their gender, race, ethnicity, or religion.

We acknowledge that values cannot be authorized rather, they must be lived out. First before God and then before one another. Knowing this, we thrive through compassion with our hearts in pursuit of leaving abiding smiles on faces.

It’s hard to know who to trust these days, especially with your money, so we have a page dedicated to alleviating any concerns you might have and to highlight the reasons why your donations are safe with us.

  • We identify pressing issues within Ghana and sub-Sahara Africa by consulting community leaders, religious groups, and leading organizations.
  • Visit and grant support targeted high need communities, widows, and schools for the blind.
  • We are committed to transparency and accountability that gives you the certainty that your money goes to where it is needed the most. 92.9% of your donations are contributed to helping the blind, widows, and underprivileged in Ghana and sub-Sahara Africa.

As a charitable organization our year end accounts are internally audited to ensure donations are properly allocated. We report to the IRS and the auditor general in Ghana to conform to local and federal regulations.

Our board of Trustees are committed to transparency and accountability and are heavily involved in overseeing the work of Pass a Smile International.

All our teams in Ghana where we operate have been given enhanced training on making sure they follow our strict financial policies and procedures and are regularly inspected by our US Head Office. We have assessed any potential risks and have strict control measures in place. We advise all our partner organizations where we work to submit annual accounts to the relevant governing bodies. We gather receipts, photographic and video evidence and a resolute member of the teams are trained in accounting. We have an accountancy program in each of the countries, that we can monitor live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the US.

Our partner organizations must abide by their own government and have accounts produced each year. We have collaborated with our partner organization’s for over a decade in each country and as we have strict control measures in place, we are confident that your donations are used correctly. No money is spent without direct authorization from the US Headquarters. We have steps in place to monitor all expenditure and we have a zero-tolerance approach if we ever find anything of concern.

We are not a huge organization, we have a 6-member formidable team in the US and through our partner organizations, there are over 25 staff and volunteers actively working in Ghana. This helps to keep costs lower here in the US which means more funds are spent overseas helping to turn tears into smiles.

We do not facilitate the donation of goods and services because it is more efficient to purchase supplies in the country to help boost the local economy. This also allows our partners to choose the most culturally relevant and useful resources and reduce our environmental footprint.

Our vision, aim and focus are to transform local communities and empower individuals to help get themselves out of the cycle of poverty by providing sustainable resources.

We are guided by our partner organizations who are working in Ghana we support daily. They regularly inform us of who needs urgent help, areas that need transformation and how our programs can have the most effective impact. We then evaluate these requests, conduct further due diligence checks and research and then it is up to the senior management team, together with our partners, to see how best we can help in each individual situation.
